"What have your silver linings been from the past few years?"
Is the question posed to passersby. People are invited to write their answers onto mirrored discs & speak their answers into voice recorders. Participant's contributions are then added to this site-specific installation, which builds over time.
As darkness descends, the sculpture is lit, reflecting what the community is thankful for back onto their town square.
Commissioned by Saltire Society as part of To See Oursels – Re-imagining Scotland programme.
Premiering in Rothesay, Isle of Bute, 14-16 November 2026.
Silver Linings is a new outdoor artwork, commissioned through a national competition by the Saltire Society.
Dunoon Observer:
“A ROTHESAY artist has been selected as one of just eight creatives from across Scotland to receive a prestigious Saltire Society commission as part of the organisation’s 90th anniversary celebrations. Outdoor artist Luke Winter was chosen from more than 100 submissions to receive a £1,200 commissioning grant through the Society’s new To See Oursels – Re-imagining Scotland programme, which aims to encourage conversations around Scotland’s monuments, memorials and cultural identity.
The project builds on Luke’s earlier work for the Remembering Together Covid project in Rothesay and aims to create public artworks and memorials that strengthen community cohesion and resilience. ”
